Freezing temperatures during a Kentucky winter can cause costly damage to your system. Each winter, Automatic Rain Irrigation can close down your system properly. When you are ready to have your system closed, please call our office to schedule a Winterization. Automatic Rain Irrigation recommends winterizing your system in October or early November.

Please call 7-10 days prior to needing your system shut off as our schedule is typically booked a week in advance.

Our technician will perform two services during the Winterization.

1. System Blow Out
Our technician will remove any water from your system to keep your pipes from freezing over the winter months.

2. System Turn Off
Our technician will also turn off your system, if it is still on.

Frost before your Winterization

It is common to experience an early frost prior to system winterization. Frost will not affect your system, but a hard freeze can. If a hard frost is predicted, ensure your system is set to run a full cycle that night. The running water through your system during the coldest part of the night will help prevent pipes from breaking.

Do-It-Yourself Winterization

Winterizing your system is important for its longevity. Because Kentucky has a variable winter climate, Automatic Rain Irrigation does NOT recommend shutting down your own system. Our technicians have the appropriate equipment to remove all the water from your water lines and backflow. Systems Automatic Rain Irrigation does not shut down cannot be warrantied for broken pipes.
